So Close And Yet So Far

Posted by Bettina (Los Angeles, United States) on 7 July 2012 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

The Eiffel Tower in the far distance. Little did we know how much traffic would make that ride a ride from Hades.
...
It's hard to make the leap back to color at this point. I will, though, I promise.

Phil Morris from Saskatoon, Toronto, Canada

Love the diluted colours here, a unique view, not the normal hustle and bustle
of Paris, what a long ride it sounds, so much time to plan and so little time to
do what you planned when you got there.

The Mouse from Glasgow, United Kingdom

Sally and I were saying that's a helluva drive with the Germans and Belgians on your bumper, takes a bit of getting used to.
Long way from Berlin to Paris, still, an experience though!
This looks like the view from the peripherique.

7 Jul 2012 3:52pm

@The Mouse: I took the southern route through Frankfurt, so I avoided the Belgians. And that put me on the Autobahn even longer. Nothing like flooring it in your little Opel as you see that Audi coming at you at double the speed... Luckily I'm (originally) German. But I can attest that rocking to and fro in your seat does not make the car go faster.

Sally from Glasgow, United Kingdom

I love Paris. My oldest boy is working there

7 Jul 2012 3:52pm

@Sally: At something Disney? We drove past the sign. Is he having fun?

"Where were you, Christian? I looked all over!"
Aha! Thank you for the humor! But I'm not Paris! I am Le Havre, near the sea, 220 kilometers from Paris. You follow the Seine and you arrive home!

Interesting comments on the traffic, I went in the middle of winter so it did not seem so terrible. It does look very far away.
