It's Not All Bad

Posted by
Bettina (Los Angeles, United States) on 22 April 2010 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

Echo Lake. Looking downtown. It was after six. I had heard of lurking muggers and gang rape. I only encountered a few ducks, some swans, a smattering of geese, and the occasional strolling person enjoying the sunset.

Danièle from ETampes, France

éclairage subtil sur les tours et le jet d'eau ce qui met bien en valeur les deux silhouettes du premier plan, belle composition.

@Danièle: Thank you, Daniele!

k@ from Paris, France

Ah this lighting is just perfect, Bettina, love the silhouettes (human ones & buildings as well), so peaceful and the very contrary of the reputation of the place, it seems. Good !

22 Apr 2010 6:27am

@k@: Yes. Nothing is so black and white. Only this picture. :)

mo.langel from Courtelary, Switzerland

Very beautiful picture!!! B/W and light are perfect! Excellent composition! I like it

Strange perhaps to think that this picture and the previous one are taken within only a few blocks from each other.

22 Apr 2010 8:26am

@trilliana: Thank you! yes. It was a beautiful afternoon light and colors, but I was interested in the contrasts which worked best with b/w.

Stef67 from in my head, France

@metti: Thank you, Mehdi! :)

Christian from Mantes La Jolie, France

A peaceful shot! I think, if you got 3 badboys in front of you, drug addict with a gun against you, you could say them, with smile, something like: "hey girls not to bed after six?"... or "rest in peace brother".. Or anything else with humour... May be you will be safe.. May be not.. :)) (PS: naturaly it's a joke! If you see them: go away and run!!! It's better and you have more chances to staying alive, I think!). Ahhh.. what a wonderful world.... :)

22 Apr 2010 11:08am

@Christian: I could always shoot them with my camera. :)

keith from killarney, Ireland

Bettina those lurking gangs of ducks mug people over here to and are so dangerous be very careful and as for the swans ........

22 Apr 2010 11:48am

@keith: I know. Those swans. I barely made it out alive...

Ralph Jones from Detroit, United States

Love the silhouettes. I think it's amazing that all the rapists, murderers, drug dealers and their addicts only show up when CNN, NBC, ABS, and Fox news are around.

22 Apr 2010 12:28pm

@Ralph Jones: Where would we be without our closed captioned fearmongers? Happy? Peaceful? No, that would be too weird.

Earnest from Oklahoma, United States

Great commentary on this great scene... and yes, sometimes one must see for themselves....

one site, many sights. Is this the same lake and fountain featured in a number of your previous photos? interesting how different people bring different meanings to the same place. :)

22 Apr 2010 3:23pm

JJ from Jersey City, United States

Wonderful composition and silhouettes, so cool in B&W, the title may be apt for that night but I guess the park has that reputation for a reason, do be careful there

22 Apr 2010 5:37pm

Gary from Cochise County, United States

Looks beautiful to me. I like the tones. I feel like I know the park well.

22 Apr 2010 6:43pm

@Gary: Alright! I'm going somewhere else! ;) It's just that I grew up in Berlin and remember lakes and swans, and this is the closest I've gotten in a very long time.

Calusarus from St Sorlin en Valloire, France

Very nice backlight shot.

I like this, too. I have been near Echo Park late at night though, and it can be a scary place. During the day, I think it is lovely.
