Some Go The Extra Mile

Posted by Bettina (Los Angeles, United States) on 25 April 2010 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

On Ventura Boulevard in North Hollywood a simple sign is not enough.

What kind of meeting would this have been?
"What's our budget? Can we get a giant hand?"

Pavan Kaul from Mumbai, India

Bettina this is such a wonderful picture...The light, tones and detail are superbly captured and the subject/ title really got me off to a great start:)

Ddo from Verdun, France

Oh! Sculpture ? Montage ? The effect is striking and requires reflexion. Great shot

Larry Lefever from Lititz, United States

"Get me a giant hand !!!" The things we do for marketing. :-)

25 Apr 2010 8:49am

@Larry Lefever: I know. I mean, who do you call for this?? Go through the yellow pages looking under giant limbs?

Tede from Aubenas 07, France

Magnificent, it does not weigh the car in this giant hand!! Superb shot. Good Sunday.

✿ Anina ✿ from Auckland, New Zealand

oh my goodness! And here I thought I've seen it all :)) Fantastic shot, Bettina! The detail and lighting are both spot on.

25 Apr 2010 9:06am

@✿ Anina ✿: Thanks so much! The b/w somehow captured the absurdity even more.

Jaap from Friesland, Netherlands

A giant's hand, it's a miracle. Great shot, excellent night shot.

25 Apr 2010 10:52am

@Jaap: Thanks! They buried Gulliver in the Valley. :)

25 Apr 2010 4:11pm

LauraS from Chico, United States

You know, I was trying to imagine where this was... and since you mention North Hollywood and Ventura Blvd. I understand. Great capture, and yes... that meeting was probably a lot like you describe! Oh to be a fly on the wall of that one! Happy Sunday, Bettina.

25 Apr 2010 4:23pm

@LauraS: Thanks! This is a "valley" kind of thing. In LA proper you'll only find giant doughnuts and giant hot dogs, but giant hands are reserved for the "other side".

Sarah from Suisse, Switzerland

Beautifully shot, Bettina. That's a huge advertising budget they had to work with!

25 Apr 2010 5:11pm

@Sarah: Lol. They broke the bank with that one. :0

JJ from Jersey City, United States

Such a super shot, that sure is a sign with style, and hard to miss I am sure

25 Apr 2010 5:53pm

Mark Johnson from Rural Colorado, United States

That's hilarious! If I had a classic 'vette I would be a little scared for a hand that big to wash it!

25 Apr 2010 6:41pm

@Mark Johnson: It's not enough that someone thought of a giant hand. Someone also had to say, "Let's let that hand hold our sign, and then we'll put a car on top!"

corpusmind from Besançon, France

Reminds me the famous song !!! Nice shot too

25 Apr 2010 7:11pm

@corpusmind: Song. Which one?? :)

Gary from Cochise County, United States

A want the manicure contract. This is hilarious!! I was going to say it was a good find, but how can you miss this, although I can say that you shot it extremely well.

25 Apr 2010 7:34pm

@Gary: The manicure contract... :) It is hard to miss, but I did try a few angles. Not easy to do justice to a giant hand.

Michael from Chester, United Kingdom

It's like a cheap B rated sci fi movie, a great shot though, but watch out for those cctv cams :0

25 Apr 2010 11:19pm

@Michael: Ha. I hadn't even noticed!

metti from shiraz, Iran

Hey Bettina very nice captur... veery well done...

Dana from Burbank, United States

Great shot. Actually, it's in Studio City. Controversial sign. Free dog grooming, some days ;p.

30 Apr 2010 2:29pm

@Dana: Is it controversial? I had no idea. And you're right. It is Studio City. I was remembering being further East. :)

M@ndy from London, United Kingdom

didi you use a tripod, if not your have one steady hand :)

2 May 2010 10:59am

@M@ndy: I didn't use one, but it wasn't easy. It took quite a few shots and holding my breath. :)
