Easing my way back into the city. Back on the freeway in California. Again guilty of driving and shooting. But I live in LA. Everything happens in the car.

Incredible composition on these futuristic looking overpasses and underpasses.

Florence from Paris, France

I remember it very well... how big is this city. I went in 1978, I was young and really impressed by this town... it was summer. Sky was blue, I was in the US. The world belonged to me. Bridges made interesting curves ans spirals... it was simply delightful.

Seraphine from San Francisco, United States

drive-by shootings are a way of life in the city of lost angels?

3 Jul 2010 6:07am

@Seraphine: Yes. I do them all the time. Just point and shoot. In extreme cases I pull over. :)

The Mouse from Glasgow, United Kingdom

Shot. You really must keep your eyes on the road Bettina.

3 Jul 2010 6:08am

@The Mouse: Well, in this case I did. I just pointed the camera and hoped for the best. :)

Dulcie from Danville, CA, United States

Wonderful angles and light shining up from beneath.
When I grow up, I'm going to learn to shoot from my car... ;-)
Sometimes, when I've tried, the windshield "tint" interferes with the color. Good one, Bettina !!

Yvon from Orleans, France

Nice composition Bettina

3 Jul 2010 6:30am

Philip from Reading, United Kingdom

i really like these car shots. in fact this image slightly reminds me of 'falling down', the film, for some reason. or spaghetti junction in birmingham. one or the other....

Reminds me of the old 80's(?) Cartoon The Jetsons

3 Jul 2010 9:47am

grouser from Ludlow, United Kingdom

Nice spacial almost abstraction of curves.
Re yesterday, I have to say the colour one, despite the graphic emphasis of B/W the hazy colour on the mountains is too good to loose :)

3 Jul 2010 11:28am

@grouser: Thanks for having a look! I'm often torn. It's such a thing of personal sensibility. Fascincating how that works. I'll keep it!! :)

JJ from Jersey City, United States

Love the tones and textures in this, and the layers of roads, Love this 5 stars

3 Jul 2010 12:07pm

clodagh smith from Sacramento, United States

there is some great architecture in freeways and this really captures it. Love the composition esp good since you were driving!!! Joan Didion comes to mind concerning LA and life on the freeways, also Steely Dan. LA freeways somehow are iconic in a way they are not up here in the north

omiD from Tehran, Iran

nice shot

3 Jul 2010 1:25pm

Zoltan from Toronto, Canada

Very cool concrete jungle capture. If one didn't know it was the real deal, it could pass as a retro-futurism illo.

Michael from Chester, United Kingdom

Wow, a stunning shot that transports us right into the future. Brilliant angle and contrast processing.

3 Jul 2010 2:28pm

@Sarah: Thank you, Sarah! So are you! :)

You caught a fine place where the highways have very interesting crossings. Fine shot.

4 Jul 2010 1:10am

Cruz from exurbia, United States

The endless "freeway" this captures it well...and because it's b/w the grim-ness of the traffic jam we are not seeing is implied! Great shot.

4 Jul 2010 1:22am

Susan from Sausalito, United States

That was a fast trip!! And only you could make the belly of the freeway beautiful.

4 Jul 2010 1:49am

k@ from Paris, France

So Sci-Fi-esque, love the sensation, totally surreal, dominating scenery, we feel so little (we are)... Almost an abstract too. I like it a lot, Bettina.

In this place there, the recording of the network to autoroutier is impressive.

6 Jul 2010 7:22am

Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United States

Well said! So.Cal. photographers do it in their cars :) Beautiful shot, the contrast really yields a lot of power to this already massive structure. If I have to guess, this is probably one of the two chaotic interchanges on the 10.

6 Jul 2010 7:53am

`Paul from Minneapolis, United States

MASTERFUL composition!! .. wow.. this shot is as solid as it gets.
