Diamond Worship

Posted by
Bettina (Los Angeles, United States) on 8 August 2010 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

Baseball is full of tradition and ritual. No sport has more poets, scholars, philosophers and intellectuals writing about it. This is a moment in the seventh inning when the whole stadium takes a break, rises for the seventh inning stretch, and Nancy Bea, the Dodger's long time organist, plays "Take Me Out To The Ball Game". The whole stadium sings along and really belts out "DODGERS" when it comes to filling in their name, which can be seen in action here:

action figures at ease. I don't know how you do it but you have taken basebull (pun intended) to a new level. great series

Good composition of colors, shapes and people. A good photo of that solemn moment :)

As you might have worked out, I'm not a great lover of sport of any type, but I do like the ritual. You've captured one essential part of the game here very well

kate from lincolnshire, United Kingdom

makes for a great image quite abstract!!

8 Aug 2010 6:06am

QB from Victoria, Canada

Brilliant! The composition really adds gravity to the moment with such an expanse of empty space. Tiny people on a large field -- to remind us that the game is really so much bigger than any of the players. Of course, the field, and the colours of the field do remind us that solemn as one might feel... it's still baseball!

Nice lines and colours, the scene looks religeous.

8 Aug 2010 8:13am

@The Mouse: There is something almost religious about baseball for many people, just looking at the two big baseball movies: "Field of Dreams" and "The Natural".

✿ Anina ✿ from Auckland, New Zealand

Excellent! Beautiful colours and composition. Thanks for the info - I don't know a lot about baseball... but rugby yes... lol!

Some people do take these things very seriously. I think this is my fave image so far. Maybe a tie with booger-picker. ;) You've managed to capture my interest in a subject I usually don't care for (the one b-ball game I've been to in my life, I prayed for rain during the seventh inning stretch). Great job.

They look like little toy men on a child's baseball field. Maybe that is why we like baseball so much...the perfect green field and the order so hard to duplicate in real life. So good Bettina!

All the siprit of a sport in one picture.. It's Ab-so-lu-tly perfect Bet! All your lastest photos were very good, but this one say all about base ball! I have listened to "take me out to the ball game" more than a song, it's a real hymn.. Thank you Bet.
