Ghost Bus At The House Of Spirits

Posted by
Bettina (Los Angeles, United States) on 6 September 2010 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

One more shot as I stayed pressed against the wall, with no tripod, holding my breath. I know this is done a lot, the bus blur, but I liked that you could see a person walking into the liquor store, and I am posting it so Ronnie can go on vacation.
...
Hit another busy streak. Be right back!

6 Sep 2010 5:06am

Gary from Cochise County, United States

Makes it look like one of those 1950's diners. Sometimes the best results are by accident. Unless you planned it exactly like this, then your genius.

6 Sep 2010 5:14am

Alun from cheshire, United Kingdom

very cool shot

6 Sep 2010 5:17am

Bill Brown from California, United States

Excellent capture!

6 Sep 2010 5:33am

M@ndy from London, United Kingdom

you know I have never captured one of theses shots,* clap clap*

6 Sep 2010 5:41am

@M@ndy: Thank you, thank you, I take a bow. :))

DULCIE from Danville, CA, United States

Interesting to see/feel the bus move past, but also be able to see through the bus to the liquor store.
Never mind it being 'done a lot.' My take is we all get to do our OWN versions of an iconic shot...at least once, and more if it is our own unique expression ! And this one is. Good going, Bettina !

6 Sep 2010 5:42am

silver from k, Iran

it is fantastic the bus moving the reflection standing still nice

6 Sep 2010 5:46am

Cruz from exurbia, United States

I feel like I’m in an art-deco world with rounded corners and “modern” lighting. And then the best part is the person walking in the shop and it’s completely in focus. Great shot! I wonder if it can be done again?

6 Sep 2010 5:53am

@Cruz: You're right! That bus does have an art deco look. I didn't see it, only felt it. :)

roeb from rotterdam, Netherlands

no two blur's the same; this one is perfect

6 Sep 2010 6:07am

ORBIT from Kerman, Iran

6 Sep 2010 6:31am

The Mouse from Glasgow, United Kingdom

Well held, everything is so clear through the bus. Superb.

6 Sep 2010 6:32am

Kimhe from Singapore, Singapore

Wow really looks ghostly. The lines of the bus moving across are awesome!

6 Sep 2010 6:42am

flyingwind风飞扬 from Bridgetown, Barbados

I'm soooooo confused with the light pole and the star on the top of the photo! Why everything looks so familar with the previous picture but many things look so different at the same time, too!? Finally I opened my mind and understood that it is the shuttling bus which so nicely appeared in great time and changes the scene all at once! Excellent theatre performance! You are a great magician!

6 Sep 2010 6:45am

Sonia Nansid from Barcelona Stockholm, Sweden

Thats the bus you talked about yesterday.... It ended up by being a cool shot and I agree, its great to see the people from the other side.

6 Sep 2010 6:49am

Tede from Aubenas 07, France

Bravo because it is not easy to do this picture, the effect of speed is superb. Beautiful day.

6 Sep 2010 7:16am

Adela Fonts from Barcelona, Spain

To quickly pass the spirits. We do not have time to enjoy its charms! An amazing image, full of magnetic power! How many things can you tell us a valued photographic magic! What could be better than a picture directly to our imagination ... that l'opens wide and makes us question ...? Bettina Gracia these good morning full of energy and charming! Best regards, Adela

priceless...5*. just simply that!

6 Sep 2010 7:35am

k@ from Paris, France

I love this very painterly version of the ghost bus, the red is just stunning and yes, to be able to see through makes it very original, even the white car parked seems on the verge of entering the place. And i'm fond of the green & red lights on the right, the yellow in the red of the bus, as if in fire, and the spot of lights shining everywhere, the Moon-like hanging up there in the middle and that white zebra stuff like worn sheet of paper suspended on top of the bus. This runaway bus offers a lot to enjoy !

6 Sep 2010 7:46am

kiwisa from North Shore, New Zealand

Whoooosh - I can hear it passing by - fantastic shot and extra special because no tripod. You have very steady hands.

6 Sep 2010 7:59am

I like the contrast -- the different feel -- from yesterday's. And who can resist the lights?

Well caught ! a nice colored shot , Phil.

6 Sep 2010 8:54am

grouser from Ludlow, United Kingdom

It may be done a lot, but rarely so well. Excellent. For no reason that I can think of as it seems entirely unrelated the song 'Riders on the Storm' by the Doors cam tinkling in to my mind as I looked at this. Must be the House of Spirits at work :)

6 Sep 2010 9:21am

@grouser: Riders On The Storm relate to ghosts and spirits, I think. That, or you're having a flashback. ;)

mo.langel from Courtelary, Switzerland

Wow! Elle est superbe cette image, j'adore le bel effet de mouvement, les lumières et le personnage dans le magasin! Un tout grand bravo Bettina!

Not easy to do without tripod... I tried several times but had no result. Carrying a tripod everywhere is also a pain, so I really need to "plan" it. You did great... really ! Have a wonderful day Bettina :)

Superb photo and excellent work. Have a lovely day Bettina.

6 Sep 2010 11:12am

@Antoine: Thank you, Antoine! Have a lovely day!

Suji from tehran, Iran

These two latest photos are so nice particularly in color composition! the latest was fascinating for it's transmitting sense of "need to drink!" and now, in this one, a bus (if i understood correctly) is passing over this need!
good luck Bettina!
:-)

6 Sep 2010 11:15am

@Suji: Great way to see it! The bus creates a shield from this need.

hadi from shiraz, Iran

Congratulation!!! you find a way to run from your troubles. dont you?!!
:D

6 Sep 2010 11:36am

@hadi: LOL. You're right! I took the bus! ;)

Larry Lefever from Lititz, United States

One of the things I love about still photography is the way in which it shows us a world that we can't appreciate through normal seeing. Images with fantastic bokeh, or in this case a beautiful blur. We just don't see that way, until a talented photographer as yourself show us.

6 Sep 2010 1:17pm

@Larry Lefever: Thanks, Larry! I've never quite thought of it that way. You're absolutely right. Photography extends and enhances our ability to see, and captures and brings to consciousness what only our unconscious mind can otherwise comprehend. What a fantastic gift to the experience of living.

clodagh smith from Sacramento, United States

Swoosh. I love blurry photos and those brave enough to make them. A fine one here

This was well worth missing the flight for, Bettina ! I'm viewing having been called to the Security Suite on Level 8 . . you sure know how to pull in the Visitors with a dream shot like this. Brill !

6 Sep 2010 4:46pm

@Ronnie 2¢: Thanks for suggesting it. I hope you have a fabulous time. That is if they ever let you out of security. What with your long rap sheet and all...

trilliana from Munich, Germany

great you shot when the bus passed by, the perfect moment when the windows where in the right position. this framing is terrific.

6 Sep 2010 4:59pm

LauraS from Chico, United States

This is fantastic! The bus lends to our sense of emergency, quick need for the drink, and the man walking into the store is the real act, and the blur is the mind, and it all fits together so perfectly for mind, spirit, body. Great serendipity. You are "in-tune" with the universe, Bettina. At least this moment in the universe...

6 Sep 2010 5:09pm

@LauraS: Thank you so much for this wonderful comment, Laura! I love that you say in tune with the universe. I'm always aware of it. And these moments are just that. :)

Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United States

Speaking of Echo, I like the green echoing to the right. Cool shot. Another observation: the man through the MTA window, is that a zombie looking for booze at night ;)))

7 Sep 2010 11:20pm

@Howard F.: That green echoing must be the name or number of the bus or the location. I loved that little detail, too. The zombie is carrying a very large bag for a liquor store. ;)
