Hollywood Runaways

Posted by
Bettina (Los Angeles, United States) on 24 November 2010 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

A huge shoe store in Hollywood. Every time I drive by I do a double take for the sheer size of the store and volume of shoes.

NIKON D60 1/25 second F/4.5 ISO 200 150 mm (35mm equiv.)

bluechameleon from Vancouver, Canada

What a cool shot. It's like they are all set to run around the store...perched, until then.

Hey, a creative application of tele: the distances between the shoe walls nearly seem to disappear, so one might ask: is there any place for customers?

24 Nov 2010 9:24am

Stephen from Canberra, Australia

Brilliant shot that looks like a piece of modern art! It’s as though an artist has carefully placed the shoes and boxes to create this colourful visual effect. Otherwise, I guess you took this shot before the doors opened for the half-price sale stampede!

24 Nov 2010 9:37am

@Stephen: LOL. Thanks! No stampedes. Very empty. There are huge pane glass windows to the street. I was leaning on the car, steadying myself. I've often driven by, thinking of stopping.

Denny Jump Photo from Easton, PA, United States

"I suppose you're all wondering why I have asked you to come here today. Well,I say it is time for all of us to put our foot down on this terrible runaway shoe is driving us into the ground and, quite honestly, I have to tell you, it is wearing me thin! Now we either have to stamp out the runaway shoe business or we will be caught flat0footed with corny comments like the one I am reading now!" SO run, run for your lives !

24 Nov 2010 6:10pm

LauraS from Chico, United States

How many pairs did you buy? One of every color? Hah! You always see the big picture, don't you? And the rows of things? Shoes, cans, statues... I think you are trying to make order out of chaos, and create a linear world, when you know you can't have it... OOh, deep thougths today!

24 Nov 2010 7:11pm

@LauraS: Oh so deep thoughts. ;) But you're completely right! I believe that understanding patterns is the key to life. Without it you're lost in the jungle.

24 Nov 2010 7:15pm

DULCIE from Danville, CA, United States

A wonderful catch, Bettina. Perfect title !! :-)

24 Nov 2010 8:40pm

LauraS from Chico, United States

Have you ever lined up your thumbnails of similar "linear" shots to see what it looks like, "en masse" ?? Might be an interesting perspective on your eye to thinking skills. Hmm? Why do I have this free time on my hands to play with these thoughts? Day before Thanksgiving! I'm at work, but hardly anyone else is, so I'm free to let my mind wander... How fun is that?

Happy Thanksgiving, Bettina!

24 Nov 2010 8:53pm

@LauraS: Happy Thanksgiving to you, too, Laura! I have actually thought of that. In fact I'll get right on it! :) It's that kind of day...
