My Questionable Priorities

Posted by
Bettina (Los Angeles, United States) on 18 February 2011 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

On this night my son began driving a car, saw Wynton Marsalis play at Disney Hall, won the music composition at his school, and got his best grades ever. And all I took was this stinking photo.
I am getting ready to get on a plane to Istanbul on a project. I will be a little busy and may not be able to post much over the next week, but I will certainly try and hopefully bring back a few pictures !

DULCIE from Danville, CA, United States

S'cuse me? You're kidding, right? You've obviously successfully launched your son into the world.
Besides being his mother, you may also be his mentor and muse.
Seems to me you are an example for him, expressing YOUR work in the world .... expressive, creative and artful photos such as this one! A beautiful almost mystical image, Bettina.

18 Feb 2011 5:52am

@DULCIE: Dulcie, that was just the sweetest thing to say. That really meant a lot to me. Thank you. :)

It sounds like a real "Red-letter" day with those events adding up to a head-rush of happiness(and maybe a little fear over the new driver...) You've got something to lock them all to in this shot, so whenever you see it you can say "That was that day when...."

Chris Pereira from San Jose, CA, United States

this is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful buildings in LA, I was down in LA this past week on an immersion trip with my school, there's some construction going on near this building (couldn't tell you where because i'm not all that familiar with LA) but it was right after the rain last saturday, so the ditch (maybe for a foundation) was filled with water, and with the reflection of the cityscape at night, it legitimately looked like an underground city. it was simply amazing, I did take a picture, but i was in a hurry (since i was in a group) and had to climb a barbed wire fence (and cut myself :( on it) I was happy with the picture, but it just didn't do the picture justice, had I had more time, i would have done a vertorama, or something of that nature... well this is quite long...

1 Mar 2011 5:52am

Chris Pereira from San Jose, CA, United States

i went around google maps and concluded that it was on the corner of first and broadway when that ditch is filled with water, it totally looks like an underground city. When we walked by it, that was everyone's first reaction, so I had to run back and climb the fence (;

1 Mar 2011 5:54am

@Chris Pereira: That sounds wild. I have to check that out!

Beautiful picture, Bettina!
(but if you used a tripod the image would be even more beautiful with a sensibility of 200 iso.)

2 Mar 2011 8:46am

@Piero: Thank you, Piero! I know what you mean. This time I was parked across the street illegally. Couldn't stop, get out, just idling on the side of the road when the traffic was low and quickly caught this shot. Parking is a challenge in LA. My mother was in the car. Her hip was hurting. Not easy to park and walk. That's the whole story. But I like the tip for 200 iso. I will keep it in mind! :)
