I need to look back through the chronology of the pictures to remember where this neighborhood was. I believe it was near the Galata Tower. It had a lot of character and charm in its decay.
@k@: Yes, a very different Istanbul it is! Yours is alive and vibrant and teeming with faces and children and moments. Mine is devoid of people, under a haze and cloud. I wish I had had much more time to get deeper into the people side of things. But I love the combination. Put your people into my empty streets!
@Richard: Absolutely. I agree. That's the way to go. You must be having some fantastic revenge, because from the looks of your beautiful pictures, you must be living very well.
@Jason Kravitz: Thanks, Jason. Every corner was so evocative in Istanbul. I loved it. I just wish I had had a lot more time.
@CATCHLIGHT: Good question. Maybe there's a certain amount of art conditioning inflicted by the coffee tables. But I, personally at least, find the decay of human endeavor so moving. It speaks to the impermanence of our lives, when the endeavors that seem so important are later rendered to ruins, when pride is stripped to illusion. I find these images of dreams gone by just beautiful and sad.
