I went to a wedding and had the best time I've ever had. I didn't understand a word, but there was so much love and joy in that room that it's all I needed to understand.
And a bit of an explanation. The pinata is filled with candy, hanging from a string, being pulled by the man on the balcony in the background. The kids take turns, one by one, to try and smash the pinata so that it opens and all the candies fall out so that the kids scramble to gather as much as they can.
Need one more day to finish something and I'll be back!

Sorry, explanation needed...Has he just thrown the thing on the ceiling? Will he catch it, or do the kids? Is it a dance? What country were you in? What does Pinata actually mean? See, I'm completely captivated by the shot!

Cool framing. A fun filled scene for all! (Interesting from the comments that not all understand 'pinata' - it is quite popular for kid's parties in my corner of the world.)

It's obvious that family was a priority here, which it seems to be in most Latino families...something we could all learn. Those little girls are just beautiful in those gowns and this entire scene is really nicely composed, Bettina...down kinda low and a great, great perspective...Glad you had a good time, good lord you deserve it as busy as you are! Love from Mrs J and me!

@Denny Jump Photo: You always hit the mark with your comments, which are always so insightful. It's true Hispanic families have a wonderful sense of family. They have the highest life expectancy in America now. Wonder if there's a relationship.

Sam from Chennai, India

Lovely. You have so well explained ... Great image full of love and joy. All the best, Bettina :)

Any moment now the man and his stick will break the pinata, which is filled with little treats that then fall to the ground. All the children are anticipating that moment! They will then rush forward and pick up what they can. I can imagine the excitement!

13 Apr 2011 6:36pm

@karla: It's so sweet. The kids are all so excited.

k@ from Paris, France

What's that ? He tries to grab it ? Super scene with great fiesta feel, some weddings are great moments and this one is obviously on the list ! Kids seems so happy to participate !

14 Apr 2011 7:26am

@k@: It was such a fun and loving time. The kids were so happy all throughout the evening. The candy rains down and everyone starts running and grabbing what they can, but not before every child gets a chance to hit. That's why the man in the back sometimes pulls it up and makes it harder for the older ones.

Dana from Tarzana, CA,, United States

You caught the perfect pinata moment. Marvelous. I could never bring myself to break one.
