These are three pictures of my mother that I've always loved. On the left, seeing my mother putting on make up as a young woman is such a treat for me. Once a mother becomes a mother, she often lets go of those "frivolous" feminine vanities in place of the big job of caring for her children. And my mother certainly gave everything to that task. I've loved the middle picture because of her famous smile, and the fact that her showering at a public pool connotes to me a carefree time of her life that I didn't often get to see once she put herself second for the sake of others. On the right she was a young wife, not yet a mother, a whole adventure of motherhood still ahead of her. These are glimpses of my mother that I cherish. Sometimes I think my mother really doesn't know how wonderful she is. She's always had that wide and beautiful smile that bespeaks her generosity of heart and spirit. She has a genuine gentleness that genuinely never loses patience. For an impatient person like me, I've always admired that. She loves to laugh and joke more than she realizes, and she's always had an effect on people. So many times people have come up to me and expressed such love for my mother, just on the basis of the spirit she exudes. She is a nurturing and loving and giving person, and even in times of challenge and stress in her life, she has always handled everything she does with grace and dignity and sincerity. She loves life, she loves people, and she especially loves children and their innocence, which is her own innocence of heart that she was somehow able to retain in a world that can be hard on a heart. I hope she knows how deeply I love her, and how deeply she has influenced me over time, how grateful I am to her for everything she's done and still does. To my beautiful mother, and our beautiful grandmother, Happy Mother's Day!
